The Challenge

The Project Management Institute (PMI), along with the Construction Industry Institute (CII), Lean Construction Institute, Saudi Aramco, Jacobs, and other collaborators, has identified seven critical challenges in construction projects: scope creep, poor design, procurement, communication, performance, technology, interface, and execution.

The PMI-CP program and certification addresses these challenges, covering over 70% of construction projects that suffer from budget overruns, delays, and scope creep.

Introducing the PMI-CP™ Certification

PMI-CP™ is the only internationally recognized certification that offers an in-depth curriculum focused on the construction industry.

This advanced certification empowers construction professionals to elevate their careers. It prepares them to lead, plan and manage contracts. It also equips you to navigate challenges and stay relevant in this evolving field.

Program Modules

PMI-CP™ certification equips you with in-demand skills and bridges the gap between construction project management and industry sustainability. Learn methodologies and best practices to improve ROI as well as gain the skill set to help keep your projects on schedule and within budget.

Start your PMI-CP™ Learning journey by completing all 4 foundational course modules:

Construction Project Communications
Construction Interface Management
Construction Scope and Change Order Management
Construction Contract and Risk Management

Module 1: Construction Project Communications

Understand the principles of effective communication, including how to overcome cultural communication differences.

Tear Down Communication Barriers in the Built Environment

Today's large engineering and construction projects are incredibly complex, raising the requirements for effective communication across stakeholder groups. Construction Project Communications is bundled with an assessment that is designed to help you unlock the power of effective communication in a construction environment.

Module 2: Construction Interface Management

Master the essential skill of managing communications, relationships, and deliverables.

Achieve Mastery of Effective Interface Management

Interface management is the management of communications, relationships, and deliverables among two or more interface stakeholders. Furthermore, research conducted by the Construction Industry Institute (CII) indicates that effective interface management increases stakeholder alignment, improves real-time visibility and oversight, and proactively mitigates risk. Improve the outcomes of your construction projects and master the essential skill of interface management.

Module 3: Construction Scope and Change Order Management

Learn to take control of scope creep and effectively manage change orders in large projects.

Solve the Challenges of Scope Creep and Change Orders

With the growing complexity of today's large engineering and construction projects, effective scope and change order management is critical to reducing waste, disputes and financial loss.

According to a recent global PMI survey, over 70% of project professionals in the construction industry experience scope creep, resulting in project delays and cost overruns. Lead the change with PMI's Scope and Change Order Management module.

Module 4: Construction Contract and Risk Management

Learn how to prioritize project risks so high impact risks can be managed effectively.

Manage Risk and Improve Project Outcomes

No matter the size or complexity, all projects in the built environment carry a certain amount of risk. Therefore, effective risk management strategies are imperative to ensuring the successful delivery of these projects. Nail down new contract and risk management skills such as:

  • Understanding the important clauses that need to be flagged and understood in built environment contracts

  • How an effective risk management framework reduces claims

  • How to use the Integrated Project Risk Assessment (IPRA) tool to improve how risk is managed in built environment projects

Target Audience

The PMI-CP™ certification is a mid-to-senior level credential that is suitable for all professionals within the construction industry, for example: Developers, Contractors and Consultants. This certification is not only for Project Managers but also for others such as Architects, Planners, Engineers and Quality Surveyors. Other key target audience include:
  • Construction Project Managers
